Profile Of the Institution

A very small band of  experienced teachers and dedicated social workers started the People’s Welfare Society with a vision to  provide educational facilities to the under privileged sections particularly of Sion-Koliwada-Dharavi areas.
The Society was registered on the 1st of May 1960, in the then newly carved linguistic State of Maharashtra. It was singularly fortunate to have Shri. S. S. Aiyar, a veteran educationist as its first President and Dr. G. B. Barve , a well-known medical practitioner and social worker, as its Vice-President.
The School made humble beginning occupying four small ground floor class-rooms in Amar Bhuvan,Sion East in Bombay(now Mumbai). With growing demand, despite financial constraints, the society  purchased six flats in Veena building located  behind Rupam Cinema, (No w Cinemax), to accommodate the secondary school. The first batch of students appeared for the SSC  Board Examination in March 1974.
In the year 1972 the Society acquired Plot No 46, amidst many challenges as a first step towards meeting the growing needs of the students and completed the present structure in  June 1975.
The unique feature of the society and its schools is that all their affairs are managed mostly  by dedicated teachers themselves, Ex-Students and retired teachers who have considerable experience.
It will be worthwhile recalling the services of many who have helped the institution in their own humble way to attain its present status. Some of them are Shri. S.S. Aiyar, Dr. G. B. Barve, Shri.C. L. Ranganathan, Shri. S. Narayanan, Shri. N. R. Ranganathan, Shri. N. R. Subramanian, Shri. Muthukrishnan  and  Shri. P. D. Bhandari.
The institution which started with a batch of about 5 students, way back in 1960 has a strength of above 2000 students presently,  spread out over 39 Divisions.
